This is address and panel will begin HSOCA’s Race & Policy: Voices Seldom Heard series which will have programming based around people of color feeling empowered to voice their personal stories when they enter halls of power. We are pleased to have Rep. Flanagan and Dr. Burga participate in this event.

Representative. Peggy Flanagan

Long before being election to the Minnesota Legislature in 2015, Rep. Flanagan has been a champion on behalf of Minnesotans who have historically been left out of policymaking. Her social advocacy and civic leadership led to her becoming the first Native American woman ever to address a major party convention from the podium.

Dr. Fernando Burga

Fernando Burga is an assistant professor for the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) degree program. His research deals with equity in urban planning particularly in relation to the incorporation of immigrants. Fernando is a champion within the Humphrey School for greater diversity and in the field of urban planning.
